Ozarks Studies Symposium

Theme: “Internal Conflict and ‘Civil Wars’: 1861-2011”
The symposium will take place September 22-24, 2011, on the Missouri State University-West Plains Campus in West Plains, Missouri.
The theme will be “Internal Conflict and ‘Civil Wars’: 1861-2011.” For purposes of this symposium, “the Ozarks” is defined broadly to encompass much of Missouri and Arkansas and adjacent portions of Oklahoma, Kansas, and Illinois.
The theme for the 2011 symposium is intended to accommodate consideration of a wide variety of topics and themes. Presentations from all academic disciplines or interests that fit within the chosen theme are welcome from any individual interested in the Ozarks and in contributing to furthering knowledge of the distinct culture and landscape of the Ozarks.
Each presenter will be allotted 30 minutes; presenters will be asked to limit their prepared presentations to approximately 20 to 25 minutes to allow time for questions and discussion. Presentations may take the form of conventional conference papers or any other form suitable for such a symposium.
